Herboristeria del Rey is where Barcelona smells of herbs, honey, and time.

Shaped candles made from natural wax. Handcrafted tiles and figurines with a touch of Elizabethan flair. Scented pendants, essential oils, herbal teas for every mood — from sleepless nights to quiet joy. And honey from a local family apiary, passed down through five generations. This isn’t a nostalgic replica, but a living legend: a shop that opened its doors in 1818.

Herboristeria del Rey is one of the oldest herbalist shops in the city — and without doubt, one of the most atmospheric. It has outlived monarchy, republic, dictatorship, and even a starring role in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer — and still feels authentic. Not a museum, not a staged attraction, but a place where memory and tradition are part of the shelves.

Its elegant interior was designed by Francesc Soler i Rovirosa — a Catalan painter and set designer. The same one who first had the idea to dim the lights before a theatre performance. He turned the shop into a stage of its own, with a marble fountain in the centre — once home to medicinal leeches.

Come here not just to shop (though you might), but for the feeling. Breathe in — you’ll know you’ve stepped into another time. Chat with the staff. Notice the little things. And take with you not just a souvenir — but the warmest memories. Literally.
