Heimen Husfliden
✩✩-✩✩✩
Heimen Husfliden is where Norwegian traditions are alive and well. This shop opened in 1892 as part of a major craft movement that changed many lives. A year earlier, three artisan guilds had founded the Norwegian Association of Craftsmen to promote handmade goods — not in factory workshops, but in people’s homes across the country. For rural Norwegians, it became a crucial source of income. For Oslo, it was a revelation: the demand for crafts skyrocketed.
Since then, Heimen Husfliden has done more than sell beautiful things — it has inspired. It has organized competitions, developed new designs, collaborated with architects and designers, and revived national costumes and traditional furniture-making. In fact, Husfliden in Oslo played a key role in the revival of Norwegian crafts — and helped set the stage for what we now call Scandinavian design.
Today, you’ll find here Bunad-style jewelry and accessories, traditional textiles, tableware, and gifts made by Norwegian artisans using time-honored techniques and a lot of heart.
So if you’re looking to take home a piece of living Norwegian heritage — now you know where to go.
