The Sindashi boutique in San Miguel de Allende feels more like a haute couture museum than a shop. Here you'll find hand-painted and hand-embroidered dresses, skirts, jackets, trousers, capes. Each piece is like a painting you can wear.

The brand's creator, Ángela Nasta, used to live in Mexico City working as an interior designer. On the side, she painted fabrics inspired by Mexican culture. Her work proved so popular that in 2011 she turned her hobby into a business and opened a workshop in San Miguel de Allende — a town of artists and designers.

Today, around fifty artists work on fabrics for Sindashi. Some are trained professionals, others come from the graffiti scene. Every piece is hand-painted, so no two are alike. Local women from nearby communities do the sewing.

On Sindashi dresses you'll see jaguars with blazing eyes, tropical flowers, souls of Aztec warriors, painted calavera skulls, ancient astronomical symbols... Pre-Hispanic and colonial Mexico, life and death, earth and sky — all reimagined and brought to life in contemporary forms.
