Mixta
✩✩-✩✩✩
Mixta is an unusual gallery and boutique in San Miguel de Allende, founded by Australian-born Anna Sinclair. The format follows the name literally: Mixta is a mix of objects with different origins and functions — clothing, textiles, jewellery, home decor and art objects, both decorative and practical, made by designers and artisans from Mexico and other countries.
Mixta started in a small space and later moved into an 18th-century Spanish house. The building comes with its own local legend: during renovation, a former owner is said to have discovered a chest filled with Spanish gold coins in the inner courtyard. Thanks to that find, the house was completed as it stands today, and Mixta is often mentioned among the most beautiful boutiques in the world.
Inside, Mixta is a dense and carefully composed space with an eclectic display of objects, painted walls and a welcoming patio. In a city rich in art galleries and design shops, it feels entirely at home. With frequent changes to the selection and window displays, the shop looks different every time you return.
