Happening

Happening Store is a tiny shop in Roma Norte where a couple of dozen square metres hold a collection from 60+ Mexican brands. Clothing, shoes, jewellery, ceramics, prints, cosmetics, candles, bags. Young designers you won't find anywhere else.

The shop was founded in 2011 by designers Cynthia Yee and Bárbara Betanzos. The idea was simple: give talented people a platform when they've got great stuff but no way to reach the market. Happening became a sort of incubator for Mexico's emerging design scene.

Cynthia and Bárbara hand-pick every piece, favouring limited runs or even one-offs. Buy something here and you won't bump into anyone else wearing it on the street.

Clothing is mainly streetwear and urban casual. Shoes — leather sandals, loafers, trainers — focus on Mexican quality (Mexico's actually one of the world's major footwear producers).

Then there are accessories and homeware: tote bags, postcards, ceramics, candles, incense holders. Some pieces are developed exclusively for Happening Store.

Roma Norte is a neighbourhood of art galleries, independent bookshops, cafés and street art on every corner. People come here looking for something special, not high-street tat. Happening fits right in.

The shop's small, but staff know the story behind each piece and can tell you who made what and how. Prices are reasonable: young design without the silly money.
