Valletta Glass
✩✩-✩✩✩
Valletta Glass was founded in 1979 by Paul Said, one of Malta’s first local glassblowers who had previously worked at Mdina Glass.
Having grown up around the craft and inspired by Venetian Murano glass, he decided to create a workshop that reflected his own sense of beauty and precision.
Today, Valletta Glass remains a family business and continues to develop the Maltese school of glassmaking. The main workshop and store are located in Ta’ Qali Crafts Village, where visitors can see everything in action — the furnaces, the craftsmen, and the process of glassblowing itself. Every day, free live demonstrations take place, allowing you to commission a piece and watch it being created right from the fire.
Everything here is handmade. The molten glass is blown through a tube, and while it’s still hot, shaped by hand using simple tools — no automation involved. Colour is added with glass chips or powders that are mixed directly during the process. This technique gives Valletta Glass its signature swirling patterns and shimmering tones — instantly recognisable in Maltese glass.
The range at Valletta Glass is wide: vases, bowls, candle holders, paperweights, glass flowers, jewellery and home décor pieces. Particularly popular are the glass flowers — which never wilt — and the handmade jewellery, with pendants and bracelets featuring tiny glass hearts crafted in the workshop.
