Sforma Studio
✩✩-✩✩✩
Sforma Studio is a small workshop on the island of Gozo, founded by architect and artist Clara Azzopardi together with her husband Keith, a physicist and engineer. Here they create lamps and interior objects using 3D printing, inspired by the Maltese coastline — its cliffs, wind, and the soft glow of limestone.
Sforma lamps resemble the relief of the Maltese shores, as if cast from light and shadow. When the lamp is turned on, the plastic of the shade warms and creates a special “Maltese” glow. There is no decoration for the sake of effect — only a clear rhythm and concise form.
In addition to lamps, Sforma Studio makes candleholders and minimalist prints with views of the Maltese islands. Look for them on the island of Gozo, in the center of the town of Għajnsielem, or in Malta, at the local designers’ boutique Il-lokal in the center of Mdina.
Sforma is a rare example of contemporary Maltese design without pretension or souvenir style. Just an honest form, created by people who see their island not as a tourist postcard but as material for artistic inspiration.
