Ca’ Macana
✩✩✩-✩✩✩✩
Masks are everywhere in Venice — but sadly, most aren’t real. Many are mass-produced in China from plastic. Only a few are truly handmade using the old papier-mâché technique.
If you're after a real Venetian mask, head to one of Ca’ Macana’s stores. Founded in 1984, this workshop has stayed true to its roots: traditional shapes, hand painting, no glue guns, no cheap lacquer. You'll find everything from classic styles to collectible pieces. The difference is clear — this is the real Venice, not a souvenir knockoff.
At Ca’ Macana, you’re welcome to touch, try on, and photograph the masks — from traditional designs to one-of-a-kind creations you won’t see anywhere else.
They also offer studio tours and hands-on workshops for all ages and levels — from decorating a finished mask to crafting one from scratch.
Ca’ Macana has two locations in Dorsoduro and Cannaregio. Addresses and website below.
