Barovier&Toso: 700 Years of Crystal Light
For a truly refined experience on Murano, visit the Barovier&Toso Palace. Founded in 1295, Barovier&Toso is one of the world’s oldest glassmakers still in operation. Over more than seven centuries, the company has evolved — but continues to uphold its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and the island it calls home.
Barovier&Toso specializes in lighting and vases. Their chandeliers, lamps, and wall fixtures, made from Murano glass, can be found in Cartier and Dolce & Gabbana boutiques, as well as Bulgari Hotels in Rome and Beijing.
A key moment in the brand’s history was the creation of Venetian crystal by Angelo Barovier in the 15th century. Free of lead and arsenic, this glass is prized for its clarity and subtle brilliance. Each piece takes at least three full days to produce, through a sequence of traditional hand techniques refined over centuries.
Today, Barovier&Toso has boutiques in Milan, Singapore, and other cities — but their Palace in Venice is a destination in itself. Housed in a three-story building overlooking the historic Rio dei Vetrai canal, it combines a boutique, a café, and a museum space shimmering with light and reflection.
We're impressed — and you?
P.S. There’s also a small Barovier&Toso boutique near San Marco. You’ll recognize it by its unique display — a “glass garden” of chandeliers, flowers, and butterflies.
