St. Dom

St. Dom is a multi-brand concept store in Bogotá and Cartagena, bringing together a carefully curated selection of goods by Colombian and Latin American designers under one roof.

The project was founded by the married couple Maya Memovic and Alex Srour. Maya was born in Croatia, grew up in New York, worked as a model with Elite agency, studied film directing - but fashion won out: she worked as a designer at Stella McCartney, Catherine Malandrino and Ralph Lauren, while also developing her own label. She and Alex met while working at Ralph Lauren. Alex comes from the family that founded the Colombian fashion house Salomón. When Alex decided to return home to help restructure the family business, Maya went with him.

Together they reoriented the Salomón brand toward a contemporary resort aesthetic and renamed it Azulu. The idea for St. Dom came from their own experience of travelling: the couple were frustrated by the fact that in major tourist cities there are almost no places where you can see and buy interesting pieces by local designers all in one spot.

In 2014 the pair found a beautiful house in Cartagena - a colonial mansion on the lively Calle Santo Domingo in the historic centre. By then Cartagena had already become a popular destination for discerning international travellers, yet there were no shops carrying local designer brands. St. Dom became the first showcase for 70 Colombian design labels and an essential stop for visitors to the city.

A few years later the couple opened a second St. Dom in Bogotá - a three-storey boutique with a spiral staircase and floor-to-ceiling windows in El Nogal, one of the most exclusive neighbourhoods in the Colombian capital.

The St. Dom range covers clothing, jewellery, accessories, home décor, furniture and works of art. Each brand has its own dedicated exhibition space to tell its own story - and that gives the whole shopping experience a particular charm. Condé Nast Traveler called St. Dom the coolest concept store in the country, and Maya Memovic put it plainly: "We want people to think that if you haven't visited St. Dom, it means you haven't been to Cartagena."
